Iowa Lawmakers Allow Children Under Age 14 To Use A Revolver Or A Pistol

Many toddlers especially the boys would choose to buy a toy gun in a toy store. Well, this toy is for real in the state of Iowa as the lawmakers in the said state approve a bill that allows children to age 14 and below to use handguns under parental supervision.

Huffington Post reported that this bill was approved by the 62-36 vote last Tuesday and was now heading for the state Senate. Some democrats were not in favor of the bill.

"We do not need the militia of toddlers," Rep. Kirsten Running-Marquardt said. He was joined by other statehouse democrats.

"Logically, this bill is completely ridiculous," Rep. Abby Finkenauer said. Meanwhile, Rep. May Mascher said that they can't legislate good parenting but they can protect their children.

On the other hand, the statehouse Republican, Rep, Jake Highfill said that the legislation was a matter of the rights of the parents to modify the injustice in Iowa code. "Allowing people to learn at a young age the respect that a gun commands is one of the most important things you can do," Highfill said. He further added that the alternative is "turning 18 with no experience."

Rep. Art Staed (D) said that the legislation of the bill was a public health threat and it was not the gun rights issue. " I would not allow my children to have access to guns."

The public across the country reacted to the recent bill allowing children to handle the weapon. RT reports some tweets from the public. One of the tweets from Brian Corico read, "State of Iowa House of Reps pass a gun law eliminating the age limit for handguns, but won't ever discuss suicide prevention."

There are other bills that are passed allowing people to transport loaded guns on snowmobiles, keeping the weapon permits confidential and prohibiting any state official from being able to seize weapons in a state of emergency -- likewise legalizing the use of suppressors.
