25-Year-Old Man Forces Way Inside Ex's Home With Handgun To Kidnap 5-Year-Old Child

A 25-year-old man in Rochester is now facing numerous charges after kidnapping a five-year-old child at gunpoint early Monday morning.

Malik Breedlove, 25, allegedly showed up at a house on Fifth Street and began throwing rocks at the home's windows. A woman with whom he shares a child later opened the door to tell him to leave, but the 25-year-old suddenly brandished a handgun and forced his way inside the property.

He then stormed upstairs and forced his five-year-old child out of the house. It was also reported that he fired at least one round through the home's front door before he fled with his child, per 13 WHAM.

"There was some argument going on, that sort of thing, inside the house," Rochester Police Department's Captain Greg Bello told the publication.

"Ultimately, he ended up firing at least one round from a handgun through the front door of the house while running away with it and then running away with the 5-year-old child," he added.

Was Breedlove Captured?

Police officers who responded to reports of the shooting and kidnapping found Breedlove and his five-year-old child near Central Park and Niagara Street within minutes of the incident. The child was unharmed and safely reunited with the mother. That said, Bello said he believes the child will suffer emotional damage from the incident.

Children who are kidnapped often experience a range of psychological issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety disorders. This is even more profound in parental child abduction cases.

Breedlove, on the other hand, was brought to the Monroe County Jail. It was noted that he was carrying a .45 mm handgun with nine rounds when he was arrested.

What Charges Will Breedlove Be Facing?

The 25-year-old is currently facing felony charges of first-degree burglary and reckless endangerment, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and kidnapping, fourth-degree criminal mischief, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to WHEC.

It was also discovered that Breedlove had two outstanding warrants in City Court prior to his recent arrest. He is set to be arraigned on Tuesday morning.
