A 28-year-old father in California has been arrested after he used a knife to behead and murder his one-year-old son.
Authorities with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) arrested Andrey Demskiy, 28, early Friday morning for the murder. The crime was discovered after a 911 call for a family disturbance at the family home on the 7500 block of Versailles Way in North Sacramento County.
When police arrived, they found a person, later identified to be Demskiy's wife, standing outside the residence. She accused her husband of assaulting her and her mother---the latter of whom was transported to the hospital for injuries, the news release noted.
Additionally, investigators were told that Demskiy had been left inside with their one-year-old son, who could have been "injured" after he was thrown.
The Gruesome Discovery
SCSO police officers attempted to contact Demskiy, but the 28-year-old refused to answer the door. He also refused to "surrender peacefully," leading the police to enter the home forcibly. Authorities found the child's severed head in a bedroom.
A subsequent investigation by the SCSO and the Sheriff's Child Abuse Bureau Detectives discovered that Demskiy had used a knife to "behead and murder" his son.
"[It was] one of the most horrific things," Sgt. Amar Gandhi, spokesperson for the SCSO, told NBC affiliate KCRA.
"I cannot think of a worse call in 20 years. This is going to be something that they wear in their hearts and minds for the rest of their careers and beyond," he added.
What Were the Charges?
Demskiy was promptly arrested by authorities after the horrific crime. He is now facing three felony charges, including:
- Assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury
- Corporal injury to a spouse of a cohabitant
- Murder
Demskiy is scheduled to appear in court on December 24, per PEOPLE Magazine.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for the one-year-old, who was identified as Micha Demskiy. The campaign had set a goal of $25,000 to help the family. As of Sunday, December 22, the campaign has raised $65,736.
