California QAnon follower Matthew Taylor Coleman's attorneys say their client is still incomprehensible behind bars and cannot stand trial for allegedly killing his two small children with a speargun.

The situation comes as the suspect's attorneys only have a few days to agree to a treatment plan for him. Both sides' attorneys have repeatedly asked the court to extend the deadlines for Coleman's trial, as revealed by documents filed in federal court last month because the defendant is still unable to prepare his own defense in the case.

Coleman's case's next hearing is scheduled for Feb. 18, 2025, and the judge handling it said there will be no further extensions. Federal agents also noted that they had not observed any discernible progress with the suspect's mental health in the past few months.

Matthew Coleman Tried to Mutilate Himself

It was revealed in court documents that Coleman repeatedly tried to mutilate himself while in federal custody, such as cutting himself with a razor, diving headfirst into a toilet, punching himself in the face, and slamming his head against the floor, according to the New York Post.

The suspect is currently facing murder for allegedly slaughtering his two children, two-year-old Kaleo and 10-month-old Roxy, in 2021. He supposedly committed the crime because he believed that they had serpent DNA. Coleman is currently under constant observation, and he has been given medications against his will.

Coleman also has limited contact with his family while under federal custody, and the former surf instructor is almost entirely incomprehensible whenever he gets a chance to talk with them. A family member said, "He rambles a lot. And it doesn't make a lot of sense. Something has happened, but he's not the man we know and love. I don't know what switched."

Authorities believe that the suspect brought his kids with him when he drove from his Santa Barbara home into Mexico on Aug. 7, 2021. He allegedly killed his two children on a ranch two days after that before returning to his hotel, People reported.

Discovery of the Kids' Bodies

The person who discovered the lifeless bodies of Kaleo and Roxy was a farmer, and they were located in a remote part of the ranch in Baja California. The suspect's wife, Abby, reported her husband and two kids missing to authorities, and Coleman himself was arrested when he tried to cross the border back into the United States.

Following the killing of his two kids, Coleman reportedly seemed to have no clue that they were actually dead and continued to talk about them "in present tense sometimes." This is a problem that authorities also observed when it came time to grasp the accusations against him. This is why prosecutors said he failed to defend himself in the matter, as per the Hindustan Times.
