A 15-year-old boy from Houston, Texas, shot his mother and sister, leaving them in critical condition after he experienced physical reactions to ingesting THC edibles.
The two victims were shot multiple times in an incident that took place late Saturday in the 1000 block of Greens Road in northeast Houston. Law enforcement authorities said that the teenage suspect, another teenager, and an adult took THC edibles together. The first suspect then started having physical issues and called an ambulance.
Teenager Shoots Mother and Sister
It was reported that while the other two individuals tried to calm the main suspect down, they also started to laugh at him, which allegedly provoked him enough to get a gun. The Houston Police Department (HPD) said that the teenager also called law enforcement, saying that he planned to harm himself or someone else.
However, when authorities later called back and contacted the youth's mother, she said she was unaware of what was happening. HPD Lt. J.P. Horelica said that officers arrived and discovered the 15-year-old suspect ingested a bunch of edibles and more likely had a bad reaction, according to ABC13.
Officials added that during that time, the teen supposedly found a firearm and allegedly used it to shoot his mother and sister multiple times. Both of the victims were later brought to the hospital for surgery.
There was another person at the crime scene, another sister of the suspect, a 16-year-old, who was found to have been uninjured. Firefighters, at one point, came face to face with the teenage suspect in the parking lot and had a gun pointed at them.
One of the family's neighbors, Margaret Smith, who is a mother of two kids, said that the incident being that close to them sent chills down their spines. She added that she was thankful that police were able to stop the teenage suspect before the situation got much worse, KHOU11 reported.
Catching the Teen Suspect
Police reports also noted that when the 15-year-old suspect encountered firefighters at a parking lot, he pointed his firearm at them, told them that he killed someone, and ran off. Law enforcement personnel then chased him down and caught him soon after.
Fortunately, despite the chaotic situation, no firefighters were injured during the time that they faced off with the suspect. Police officials were also able to recover the gun that the teenager threw away but have not released the identity of the suspect or the victims, as per Fox26 Houston.
