Florida officials arrested a couple after a toddler died, whose autopsy showed harrowing details before her death, such as meth being present in her system.

The couple from Jacksonville are alleged to have been responsible for the homicide of the toddler, identified as Zamora Foe. The suspects have been identified as 20-year-old Zayla Goodwin and her boyfriend, 23-year-old Nathaniel Davis.

Toddler Found With Meth in Her System

The two were apparently at home when Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department paramedics arrived on Sept. 10, 2024. The paramedics went to the address following a call about a "medical emergency" that involved a child who had gone into "cardiac arrest and was unresponsive."

Officials later confirmed that the 22-month-old toddler died only eight days after being rushed to the hospital. Medical experts said that the victim had "multiple injuries" and that they found meth present inside her system.

Authorities announced the arrest of the suspects in September 2024 on neglect but the toddler's death was officially ruled a homicide by December 2024. The decision was made as investigators discovered harrowing details about the victim's moments before death, according to Perez Hilton.

In a probable cause affidavit, it was detailed that another adult who was living in the home noticed that the toddler stopped walking before being found unresponsive. When asked, Goodwin said that the child "fell in the bathtub" the week before.

On the morning that paramedics were called to the home, the woman claimed that she woke up to her boyfriend performing CPR on the toddler. Davis said that it was because he found Foe not breathing and facing upside down on her mattress.

Charges of First-Degree Murder

After their arrest, Davis was charged with one count each of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and tampering with evidence as well as two counts of sexual battery. On the other hand, Goodwin was charged with one count of aggravated manslaughter of a child, Law&Crime reported.

On top of having meth inside her system, the young girl was found to have suffered blunt-force trauma. In a statement, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said it was working with the State Attorney's Office to implement the harshest punishment possible for the suspects.

There was a similar news when a Florida man faced an accusation of leaving his infant daughter in a bathtub to play video games. The young girl ultimately drowned, resulting in the man, 32-year-old Joshua Ruiz-Martinez, being arrested and charged of aggravated manslaughter of a child, as per Fox13News.
