Children's Mercy Hospital Expansion
This first phase would include the renovation of the sterile processing department as well as making a bigger space for pre-operation, post-operation, and procedural care. The addition of new procedure rooms and the expansion of facilities will let the hospital meet the growing demand for various services, such as ear, nose, and throat, orthopedics, and gastroenterology.
The news release also revealed that the construction of the initial expansion is scheduled to be completed by summer 2026. Other future expansion work would include a new medical office building to consolidate outpatient services that are currently scattered.
Hospital renovations and upgrades to spaces that were vacated by the consolidation of outpatient services. There are also new programs planned to be added, including inpatient rehab, intensive outpatient programs, an expanded gastrointestinal motility program, and a neuroscience center of excellence, according to The Kansas City Star.
Furthermore, there will be parking upgrades and exterior improvements to improve wayfinding and accessibility. During construction, parking and emergency services will remain accessible for those who may need them.
Alejandro Quiroga, CEO and president of Children's Mercy said that the expansion would allow for more families to gain access to world-class care closer to home at Kansas' only freestanding pediatric hospital.
Quiroga added that by bringing all of their outpatient services together, improving hospital facilities, and creating a modern, connected campus, they can ensure that they can meet the growing needs of patients and families in the area, Fox4KC reported.
Providing Better Services
The hospital currently has four operating rooms and the expansion plans will add two procedure spaces. Rachel Meyers, a mother of eight from Belton, said the improvements to the hospital excite her as well as what new stuff they could offer residents.
Amy Fallon, the president of Regional Operations at Children's Mercy, said that they are listening to the needs of physicians and families in this community. She added that the expansion of their Kansas hospital strengthens their capacity to serve the ever-growing pediatric population.
Fallon added that the expansion is more than just adding new rooms or advancing the hospital's technology. She argued it was about deepening their commitment and reaffirming their dedication to providing top-quality, accessible health care to every child that needs it, as per AOL.
