What We Thought Wrong About Foster Parenting

Though the system has been popular in various countries especially the United States, many still have a lot of questions about foster care. Sometimes ideas and conclusions are mere misconceptions on how this system works.

The Good Men Project said a lot of individuals still do not understand the essentials about the foster care system. This often leads to judgments not only to foster kids but also to the parents who welcome them to their homes.

It explained a misconception that foster parents are only after the money given by the state. But The Good Men Project claimed that foster parents use whatever financial assistant they get for the needs of their foster kids.

"Sure, there have been reports of parents who take advantage, bring more children into their care than their home can accommodate, but that is few and far between," said foster dad Mike Berry on the same report.

He also shared that many people think that foster kids have bad behavior and cannot be controlled. Berry claimed that children like this are common in any family noting that every kid needs proper attention and acceptance in every family.

On the other hand, Life Hack claimed that people also assume that only troubled kids are entered into the foster care system. It clarified that unlike this notion, foster children are not delinquents but rather young kids looking for a safe home and a loving family.

There is also that misconception that kids who are fostered end up as bullies to other children. The same report noted that this is far from the truth in the society.

"In reality those facing instability, especially at a young age, are more prone to being bullied," said Life Hack's Robert Parmer. He noted that foster kids are more exposed to bullying because of their state and they move from one place to another.
