Singer Sara Bareilles speaks up about rumors that Katy Perry 'copied' one of her songs, saying that there is really no beef between them, according to E! Online.
The "Love Song" singer was supported by fans who said that Perry's new single, "Roar" was ripped off from Bareilles's single "Brave". However, Sara denied the allegations and said, "I was stoked. I was like, 'Great,'" she said in a recent interview.
She also said "I was like, 'You guys want to go get (mad) about something and buy my music, that's great", upon hearing her fans chattering over the Internet insisting that Perry stole Sara's song.
Perry's tune is currently at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, while Bareilles' ballad peaked at No. 31 after the comparisons started rolling in. A popular Tumblr blog,Pop Culture Brain, even layered "Roar" over "Brave" to highlight the similarities between the songs.
For the record, "Brave" hit airwaves in April, while "Roar" was released in August. "I don't feel like anything was taken from me artistically," Bareilles explained. "I wasn't the one having any problems with it."
Sara also says that she and Perry are pals and had no trouble laughing off the rip-off rumors while respecting each other's individual artistry. "I've known Katy a long time. We are friends and she and I spoke about it," she insisted. "I look at it as two female artists who are releasing a message of empowerment."
"We actually talked about it," she added of the pair's non-existent feud. "We're like, 'Should we just work on a mash-up and let everybody know we're not mad at each other?'"
