Many parents have pre-conceived notions of what skills and talents children should possess. However, all children have different interests, skills, talents and strengths.
Instead of focusing on your child's weaknesses, try to emphasize on his or her strengths. The Momma Bird shared some tips for nurturing your child's talents.
Observe your children regularly.
You can learn a lot by observing your kids. How do they play? What are their favorite toys? How do they interact with others? What are their favorite shows? How do they react to different stimuli? "Sit back and simply observe your children and in many cases, their interests and talents will start to show," Momma Bird advised.
Expose your kids to a variety of activities.
Parents need to make sure that their kids are exposed to different activities, locations and social circles. "Try music, art, or sports. Visit museums, take hikes, play games and be creative. As she grows, you will see what she keeps returning to," Dr. Tanya Altman shared with WebMD.
It is okay if your kids return to activities that they are not naturally good at. What is more important is their level of interest and enjoyment. Having fun and being passionate with what they do can help develop their skills gradually.
Give some encouragement.
Some kids quit when they experience disappointments and failures even if they have the talent for those failed activities or enjoy doing them a lot. Parents can help by calmly explaining to their kids that all people fail and that these failures can actually help them become better.
Helping your kids find out what went wrong and what they can do about it are some of the best tips for nurturing your child's talents. Tell him or her to have fun succeeding or failing and to continue learning no matter what.
