Lady Gaga rocked the stage at Oscars 2016 with her "Till it Happens to You" performance. She managed to bring the audience in tears as she emotionally sang the woman empowerment anthem.
According to the CNN, Lady Gaga's "Till it Happens to You" was about woman empowerment which is about battling sexual assault. The "Poker Face" singer was joined by rape victims during her performance wherein their forearms revealed messages such as "You are Not Alone," "You are Loved," "Survivor," and "It's Not Your Fault."
"Till it Happens to You" was co-written by Lady Gaga and the award winning Diane Warren, who was nominated eight times for her previous song. It is included in Oscars' 2016 nomination for best original song. The collaboration between two artists was for CNN Films Documentary, "The Hunting Ground" which tackles sexual abuse on American college campuses as per The Verge's report.
Lady Gaga's Oscar 2016 performance was introduced by the vice president, Joe Baiden. Baiden is known for his women's rights advocacy. He introduced the singer by opening a brief statement in regards to sexual assaults.
Baiden stated, "Too many women and men on and off of college campuses are still victims of abuse, Take the pledge: I will intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given. We must, and we can, change the culture."
Lady Gaga has been using her fame and music to stand against sexual assault. As per Fox News the Oscars performer was raped at the age of 19, and she's managed to open up to the public to talk about her experience.
"I didn't tell anyone for, I think, seven years, I didn't know how to even think about it, I didn't know how to accept it, I didn't know how to not blame myself or think it was my fault." The "Love Game" singer stated. "It's something that really changed my life, it changed who I was completely. It changed my body, it changed my thoughts."
