'Bourne 5' Release Date, News & Updates: Working Title Pays Tribute To Matt Damon's Jason Bourne

The "Bourne Identity" franchise is gearing up to create its latest and fifth installment, entitled "Jason Bourne." Even though Jeremy Renner was the latest leading man in the "Bourne" franchise, reports have confirmed that Matt Damon will be back to reprise his role of the same name.

"Well I don't know how much I should say," Matt Damon told Entertainment Weekly about "Bourne 5" as he laughed. "We talked a lot about what state he should be in, and where we came to was that if you found him fat and happy and content, you don't really have a movie."

Matt Damon further explains that although Jason Bourne was able to regain his memory at the end of "The Bourne Ultimatum," it doesn't necessarily complete the character's story.

"We find him [Jason Bourne] in a very dark and tortured place. He's living with the same things as he was before, and then he goes to fin Julia Stiles' character, who basically says, 'Just because you remember everything, doesn't mean you know everything," Matt Damon explained.

Aside from Matt Damon reprising his role as the eponymous Jason Bourne and Julia Stiles returning as Nicky Parsons, Den of Geek reports that "The Martian" star will be starring alongside recent Oscar winner Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones, and Vincent Cassel.

"Bourne 5" is co-written and directed by Paul Greengrass of "Captain Phillips" fame. The story has been adapted from Robert Ludlum's novel, which also bears the same name.

"Bourne 5: Jason Bourne" release date is slated for July 29, 2016.
