A man and his pet snake enjoyed an afternoon swim in an Australian lake on Tuesday. Witnesses claimed that the man was seen tossing and even kissing the serpent.
Herald Sun said Brisbane resident Indy Davies personally saw the scene as he was also at the Tallebudgera Creek in South East Queensland when the man, estimated to be around 40, emerged with a snake around his neck and walked directly into the waters. "This dude came out of nowhere with a tallie (longneck) of VB and a snake around his neck," Davies shared.
In a video (see footage below) of the incident, the man who was holding a bottle of beer was seen throwing the snake before grabbing it by the head and giving it a kiss. Davies thought that the two were playing in the waters.
"Then he just threw it into the water and it swam back to him and then they just seemed to be playing," Davies said. "He had a good swim around - it was pretty rock 'n' roll," the witness claimed noting that the man even came up to his group and allowed them to check his pet.
However, the witness mentioned in a Daily Mail report that not everybody was amused with the scene. Some parents were reportedly concerned of the safety of their kids swimming in the creek.
"There was one woman screaming the whole time to get out of the water," Davies said. He mentioned that the kids were curious about the man and his pet but their parents did not like scene.
In an assessment of the video, snake handler Tony Harrison of the Reptile Relocation and Awareness told UPI that the serpent could have been just captured from the wild and that it was not calm.
"The average person would look at and think it is probably calm, but the fact is the snake is probably hanging on for dear life," he explained. "They are nocturnal animals, it would be panicked and scared."
