Dakota Johnson is known for her sombre role as Anastasia or Ana in the "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie. In its much-anticipated sequel "Fifty Shades Darker" though, Johnson may take on the role less seriously.
Johnson is facing new challenges in her role as Anastasia Steele in "Fifty Shades Darker". In her role as Alice in another movie titled "How to be Single", she portrays a young, inexperienced woman who wants to venture more of herself outside a relationship. This is exactly how the character of Ana plays in the second instalment of "Fifty Shades of Grey," according to Movie Pilot.
She mentioned the challenge portraying Ana's role as most viewers cannot relate to the character. So the only way to make Ana more real is to inject humor to her character. The website further noted that without a little sense of amusement, the story may appear too heavy for the viewers.
"How to be Singe" was a good venue to demonstrate her skills as an empathic lead and a comedy performer, Screenrant stated. Just a few months earlier, Johnson commented to Elle Magazine that she wishes to see more lighter and amusing scenes in the franchise.
"I need Anastasia to be funny. If you can't laugh during a movie like that, you're fucked. Literally," Johnson said. "You need to have something that everyone can relate to."
Sadly though, Johnson's suggestion has not been considered, the website reveals. "Fifty Shades Darker" is set to get more serious. The main challenge comes from the time gap between the first movie and the next one. The website further reports that "Fifty Shades Darker" may come more as a thriller as a new set of characters will be introduced.
Christian Grey's former lover and business partner in the name of Elena Lincoln will be revealed in "Fifty Shades Darker". Likewise, his former friend turned enemy Jack Hyde will also be introduced in the sequel.
