Are You Concerned Why Your Child Is Tip Toe Walking?

If you are a first-time parent and you see your child keeps on toe walking, you surely are going to be worried and you start to find answers why your child does that. Many specialists have said that toe walking can accompany physical problems like muscular dystrophy or cerebral palsy where children show some problems in the development their motor skills.

Here are some examples that can be noticed on a child with motor skills problem: Child or toddler can't walk properly and keeps on stumbling down or a child can't stand on a flat foot for a long period of time.

According to Babycenter page, toe walking is also related to autism and language delays. If you see your child toe walking almost all the time and notice some problems with her development, then your child could be having some disorders which need a doctor's attention.

In another related study done about children tip toe walking, the results were significantly different and more positive. Results showed that almost all children who toe walk will get over it when they reach 5 years old. Many children who were toe walkers grew and developed normally with no disorders.

As posted by WebMD, toe walking that occurs on children whi don't have any disorders were called idiopathic toe walkers, said Pahr Engstrom, MD, of Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. When you say idiopathic, it is a condition where there are no known causes or factors and it just happens spontaneously.

It has been said that children who toe walk beyond 5 years of age are just habitually doing it. It should not concern parents as long as they see their child developing and growing normally.

Treatment for idiopathic toe walking may not be that necessary because it just goes away at some point. It is just a matter of changing the habit unless if the child is experiencing a kind of cerebral palsy called "spastic." This may involve surgery and rehabilitation.
