Lionsgate announced that the official filming of "Power Rangers" reboot started in Vancouver on Monday. And as part of the press release, the Dean Israelite-directed movie also revealed its formal synopsis.
"Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove - and the world - is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late," the movie's plot read.
"Power Rangers" will be starred by Dacre Montgomery as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly as the Pink Ranger, Becky G as Trini the Yellow Ranger and Lin as Zack the Black Ranger. The movie's supervillain will be played by "Pitch Perfect" and "The Hunger Games" franchise star, Rita Repulsa.
To recall, it was previously reported that "Power Rangers" reboot will feature a young adult drama, which started from the different personalities of the five lead stars and various interests. Also, many believed that the upcoming film will show the jolly side of the characters with a twist of martial arts and heavy action that some grew up to.
Additionally, the official synopsis noted that the "Power Rangers" need to surpass their "real-life issues" first in order to face the Rita to save the world. However, the plot didn't include the other "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" characters, like the alien Zordon, who gave the group their morphing powers.
Meanwhile, "Power Rangers" will be directed by Dan Israelite and written by John Gatins, Burk Sharpless, Matt Sazama among others. The movie is set to be released on March 24, 2017.
