There are reports that Lee Toland Krieger is being eyed to helm the movie series finale, "The Divergent Series: Ascendant". "The Age of Adaline" director will replace Robert Schwentke as he resigned from the franchise last month.
Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Lee Toland Krieger is in negotiations with Lionsgate/Summit to helm the final instalment of "The Divergent Series". Just last month, Schwentke decided to take some needed break after doing two instalments of "The Divergent Series" back to back.
Schwentke plans to spend more time with his family in Los Angeles rather than go back to Atlanta, The Hollywood Reporter added. "The Divergent Series: Allegiant" is set to start film production in Atlanta this summer.
"Ascendant" will be the biggest project of Krieger as of date. He previously helmed "Celeste & Jesse Forever" and "The Vicious Kind". Lionsgate reportedly distributed "Age of Adaline" which received mix reviews and earned $42.5 million.
"Ascendant" is the finale of the "The Divergent Series" based on the best-selling trilogy by author Veronica Roth. "Ascendant" is scheduled to start filming this summer with cast members Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller and Naomi Watts. The film will be produced by Lucy Fisher and Doug Wick, reports Latin Post. Lionsgate decision to pass on the helm to Krieger should keep June 9, 2017, release date of "Ascendant".
Although news of "The Divergent Series" finale is already hot, the third instalment is yet to be released on March 18. The third instalment titled as "Insurgent" welcomes new characters portrayed by Jeff Daniels, Nadia Hilker and Bill Skargard. The previous "Divergent" films have earned $586 million worldwide.
A new clip called "Heights" has also been released recently. It shows Tris and Four sharing an intimate moment, looking beyond the wall probably speculating on what could be the life beyond it. Watch the video clip below:
