Disney Channel will soon be releasing "High School Musical 4." It has been 10 years since the first movie launched.
According to USA Today, Disney made the announcement on Mar. 1 and a nationwide casting search has commenced for the sequel. The network also stated that Jeffrey Hornaday will serve as director and choreographer of "High School Musical 4." He previously worked on "Teen Beach Movie" and "Teen Beach 2."
It is still uncertain whether original cast members Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale will return in the fourth installment, writes US Magazine The three stars last appeared in the 2008 film "High School Musical 3: Senior Year." E! Online also notes that it would be a good idea to bring the three stars back in the upcoming movie, as well as other familiar characters in the previous installments.
One story concept for "High School Musical 4" would have Troy Bolton (Efron) take a break from his successful showbiz career to coach the East High Wildcats. Gabriella Montez (Hudgens), who is now Bolton's fiancé, would return to East High after she wins a Nobel Prize.
"High School Musical is part of Disney Channel's DNA. It embodies all that we stand for. As a way of continuing to embrace that heritage, we're excited to announce 'the start of something new' -- as we launch a search for a new class of East High Wildcats to star in a fourth installment of the High School Musical franchise," stated Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer of Disney Channels Worldwide.
E! Online adds that several original cast members gathered for the 10-year anniversary of the original "High School Musical" in January 2016. Zac Efron, however, was not able to attend the event. The actor has starred in several movies since the Disney movie catapulted him to fame.
More updates and details on "High School Musical 4," its final release date and casting news are expected soon.
