Gadget enthusiasts awaiting the release of GoPro Hero 5 might have to stretch their patience awhile longer as the company has chosen to push the action camera's release to late 2016. GoPro will instead put its focus in releasing the drone, Karma, ahead of GoPro Hero 5.

GoPro Chief Executive Officer Nicholas Woodman announced the company's plans during the fourth quarter earning's call with its investors. Yahoo! reports the chief indicated that Karma will be out within the first half of the year, while GoPro Hero 5 will be hitting stores "later this year."

It was earlier projected that both devices would be launched together as a way to complement and generate sales. If not at the same time, GoPro Hero 5 was originally set to be in the market earlier than Karma. However, since demand for drones are increasing, the company decided to push Karma's launch to an earlier date. Crossmap reports that Karma should work very well with any of GoPro's existing product line as it is backward compatible. Hence, it will not actually need a boost from the GoPro Hero 5.

Mootley Fool reports that the company is still mum on GoPro Hero 5's actual release, but there are speculations it will be in stores in October. The timing should be right for those who would like to get to their Christmas shopping earlier. However, the long wait should be worth it as the specifications of GoPro Hero 5 indicate it will be a huge upgrade from Hero 4.

It's been suggested that the upcoming device has the capability to take 3D images and record 8k videos using the dual lens feature. It should also come with a powerful and longer lasting 2,800 mAH battery as well as an A10 processor. The GoPro Hero 5 is also expected to be a "connected" device with a functionality that's better than smartphones and cloud gadgets.
