Toddlers are unpredictable and at times will make you crazy with their quirks and annoying habits. The key is to enlarge your patience and count one to ten. After all, you will just think that your toddler is too young and don't know better yet.
Bump and Babble share the following annoying habits the toddlers do and some tips on how to deal with them:
1. Impatience and Cannot Wait
Sometimes your toddler is impatient and cannot wait. For instance, after buying his toy in the mall, he wants to go home right away to play with his toy. On the other hand, you need to buy some important things. Your head seems to blow as he pulls you out of the mall.
With this scenario, you have to take a time to talk to your child. Stop walking for a while and say, "We need to buy important things for you and for the house. Once we bought them, we can go home and you can play with your new toy. You just have to wait for minutes. Learn to wait." If you stop and pause for a while and give him your attention, he would believe then that everything revolves around him.
2. Repetition
Children like to read the same book and sing the same songs or repeat the same word often. This may test your patience. It is actually an early part of learning, according to Laura Jana, MD, the spokeswoman for the American Academy of Pediatricians. She suggests that when your child gets older you can give him different books and as for now you can just endure such repetitive actions.
3. Whining
When children want something they whine or if they cannot get what they want they whine too. The great response to your toddler who is whining is, "I'm sorry I cannot understand you when you talk like that."
4. Scribbling on everything
You saw your toddler scribbled the blue marker on the wall or on your bed sheet. The tendency is to scold your child. At times, your toddler will just ignore your scolding as if he did not hear anything. Ms. Jana suggests that you instead keep a close supervision on your toddler and keep some tools out of his reach.
