Two of the most common house pets are now considered to be the No. 1 cause of damages among homes in Britain. A recent survey revealed that more than £4billion (around $600 million) worth of damages are caused by these pets.
Daily Mail said the poll results were revealed along with the announcement of winners for the Britain's Naughtiest Pet. The survey disclosed that one of 20 cat owners reveal that their pets bring about £1,000 ($1,500) damage to their homes.
It was also noted that 69 percent of the cat owners claim that they spend around £200 ($283) in repairs for the damages caused by their furry babies. One good example is Molly, the competition winner.
Owner Paula Sharp said that the 9-month-old cat has already caused her a £2,000. Thanks to the competition, the cat's destruction was paid off with a £500 price.
It was added in the Daily Mail report that runner-up Rolo, a mini dachshund, also destroys a lot of things inside the house. Her owner, Kelly Mobbs claimed that she will buy more chew toys so that she can focus her attention on these and not on the home furniture or other valuables.
"We thought it would be fun to reward pet owners whose homes have really suffered," said a spokesperson of Terry Fabrics, the organizer of the contest. The seller of textile fabrics wanted to give back to pet lovers whatever their dogs or cats forced them to spend.
Britons are known for their love for pets and animals. Telegraph said these people can spend as much as $7 billion yearly for their pets' food, treatment, outfits and even exercise tools.
In 2015, the United Kingdom recorded a spending of $7.6 billion for pets only. This is said to be a notable increase for the preceding year which was pegged at $6.92 billion.
