Even before hitting cinemas, there are already rumors that "Suicide Squad" will have a sequel. Director David Ayer and Will Smith, who plays as Deadshot, are planning for a non-DC project follow-up titled "Bright."
"Bright" will be a "supernatural police thriller" that also involves mystic creatures, like fairies and orcs. The film will be written by Max Landis and will also star Joel Edgerton.
To pursue the plan, Warner Brothers is trying to get the rights of "Suicide Squad." If the company succeeds, Ayer and Smith will start their collaboration to film the "Suicide Squad" sequel in 2017.
Meanwhile, the coming action-adventure-fantasy movie is part of DC's constructed Extended Universe. "Suicide Squad" has been making a lot of buzz online due to the film's attention-grabbing posters and intriguing trailer, which was played with the Queen's classic song "Bohemian Rhapsody."
A social media study found that "Suicide Squad" is 500 percent ahead from other movies, which includes "Batman V Superman." Hence, Warner Brothers confidently believes that the film will surely hit the box office success. This just proves that creating a sequel for the growing DC Extended Universe will be a good take for David Ayer.
The movie stars Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), Deadshot (Smith), Slipknot (Adam Beach), Diablo (Jay Hernandez), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and Enchantress (Cara Delevingne).
Anchoring an A-list star like Will Smith, "Bright" will surely have the same adventure and entertainment just like what "Suicide Squad" has to offer. Planning a "Suicide Squad" sequel this early is not really surprising as everyone expects the franchise to have a number of sequels.
