Some pet owners would like to adopt cats. However, they are allergic to some allergens that they might get from cats. The allergens that are present from non-allergenic cats are called "dander" and the protein which is called Fel D1--that is visible in the saliva of the cats.
The good news is that there are hypoallergenic cats that you can adopt out there. And these cats produce less few allergens than the other cat breeds.
Mom.me and Pet MD share the following hypoallergenic cats that you can freely adopt without taking antihistamines:
1. Balinese
Balinese is also referred to as "longhaired Siamese." This cat produces less Fel D1 protein that is the main cause of allergy. This means the fur of Balinese cat carries less of the allergens.
2. Russian Blue
If you really love cats but you are allergic, you can adopt a Russian Blue cat which also produces less glycoprotein Fel D1 just like the Balinese.
3. Bengals
The fur of the Bengal cats contains less allergen-rich saliva because they have fine pelts. Bengal cats seldom shed so their dander does not spread much.
4. Oriental Shorthair
Oriental Shorthair cat has fine coats that shed rarely. Cat owners do not complain much of allergy with Oriental Shorthair. On the other hand, it is still advisable to groom their hair from time to time to prevent dander from spreading.
5. LaPerm
This is a unique cat because it has a curly coat. This reduces the allergic reaction for cat owners. It also sheds less and keeps the dander from spreading around because of its curly coat.
6. Siberian
Siberian cats are known for their shaggy fur. So, you wouldn't think that these cats are hypoallergenic. On the other hand, just like the Russian Blues and Balinese cats, they also produce less Fel D1 than other cats.
