"Final Fantasy 7 Remake" will be a re-do of the classic PlayStation One RPG game title for PlayStation 4. It is reported that the game will not be one complete product but will instead utilize an episodic or "multi-part" format that allows "Compilation" side stories.
According to a report from Games Radar, this episodic format is not a feature introduced by the game developer in order to gain more profits but rather comes as a strategy to expand the original game's mythology. The report explains further that the "Final Fantasy 7 Compilation" is similar in many ways to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In order to tell a complete story several titles are used across multiple platforms. It is now possible to tell a complete story in a single game by splitting "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" into an episodic format.
iDigital Times explains that the game may be split anywhere from two parts to four or more episodes. The report also explains that the logical choice would be to split "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" in the middle, having the first episode ending with Aerith's death.
The "Final Fantasy 7" game title already featured an expansive original story. The game could not fit into a single PS1 disc at the time but rather its content had to be split into three. "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" would become a too large game only in case of expanding all that content just by itself.
The game would become even larger by adding in story elements from the "Final Fantasy VII Compilation". The PSP game "Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core" is telling most of Zack's back-story. In "Final Fantasy 7 Compilation," there are also story elements relating to Sephiroth's history with Angeal and Genesis, his rise to stardom and his eventual fall from grace.
The main PS1 game has as epilogues the CGI film "Final Fantasy 7: Advent of Children" and the "Dirge of Cerberus." However, in order to create the go-to "Final Fantasy 7" experience, their story may as well be included in the remake.
