It's a given fact that children could inherit their parents eye color, height and even body structure as genetics is something that humans can't share off. Who would have thought that temperaments, body language and facial expression can be inherited by the child as well?
Non-genetic traits can be inherited by the children through modelling, according to Parents. Children would usually pick up habit, facial expressions and some of the adults involuntary gestures through observation and imitation.
"When you observe a behavior in your child, ask yourself, 'Where did that come from?' In many cases for young children, it came from a parent," George Holden, Ph.D., a psychologist at Southern Methodist University and author of Parenting: A Dynamic Perspective said.
Though it plays a vital role in a child's character, it is not however 100 percent applicable. Modelling can sometimes turn out negative as kids might pick up the bad habit. It is important to be conscious enough when you are surrounded by children.
Some kids are more appreciative than others, because that's what they see. It is important to raise the child in a positive environment for them to pick up the good points as they mature.
"Show enthusiasm or recognition for ability you like, But if your kid has no interest in becoming the next Picasso, leave it be."Margaret Tresch Owen, Ph.D., director of the Center for Children and Families said. "Letting your child know the difference between appropriate and questionable behavior will help him make better decisions about expressing raw emotion."
Live Strong then Genome News Network mentioned that genes have the tendency to affect serotonin and dopamine, which are two powerful neurotransmitters that greatly affect a person's mind. This being said, anxiety or shyness can potentially be inherited from the parents.
