Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Says Father Taught Him What He Needed To Know About Politics

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau shared that his parents inspired him to be the leader that he is now. He admitted that he asked his father, ex-Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau about the essential things he needed to know about politics when he was still on his 20s.

In an interview with CBS News, the 44-year-old politician said all the life lessons his father imparted to him shaped him to become the a good leader for the country. "Everything that he had to teach me about being a good politician, he'd already given me about being a good person. About being a good teacher. About being a good citizen," he added.

But he also shared that he had confusions of what he really wanted to do in life. He claimed that he was determined to succeed and achieve great things in life.

"I hadn't really realized that it was very much about following in my father's footsteps," the Prime Minister was quoted by a CBS News article as saying.. "And I had a bit of a breakdown, where I just realized this wasn't my track. This wasn't being true to me."

Trudeau said this led him to an "unusual path" towards become the leader of Canada. He shared about his varied experiences from being a snowboard instructor to a nightclub bouncer.

"I was a whitewater river guide for many years. I worked as a teacher," he noted. "I make no apologies for a very varied set of life experiences."

According to the Toronto Sun, Trudeau's CBS interview was viewed by an estimated 12 million Americans. One of the most interesting parts of the report was the Prime Minister's boxing victory versus former Sen. Patrick Brazeau.

Aside from his personal sharing, Trudeau also made comments on what his people did not like much about Americans. "Having a little more of an awareness of what's going on in the rest of the world, I think is, is what many Canadians would hope for Americans," he claimed.
