There is no royal treatment for the royals. Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Harry will be in Amiens by the end of June but their accommodation for a luxury hotel was declined.
The three royals are set to attend the Somme 2016 commemorative events in France. They will be representing the royal family in a two-day gathering. Hence, the need for a two-night stay in Amiens, Daily Mail Online reported.
"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry will attend commemorative events in France on June 30 and July 1. This is an important commemoration and they are honoured to be taking part on behalf of The Queen and the Government," said the Kensington Palace spokesman.
The Battle of the Somme or Somme Offensive is one of the bloodiest battles in the history. On July 1, many British armies died. There is an estimate of 1.1 million casualties among British and Commonwealth forces.
Hotel Marotte is the only five-star hotel in the area. They offer a Penthouse with a spacious garden terrace, sauna suites and rooms worth between £135 and £270 a night.
Per Express.co.uk, the royals requested four rooms and a suite for the royal couple. Unfortunately, there was no more room in the hotel.
In January, the France's ministry reached out to the owner of the hotel to accommodate the royal family. However, they are already fully booked and they do not want to cancel the current reservations because it will be unfair for those who already booked.
"We have to decline the offer, it's impossible at that time of the year, we are already fully booked up," Olivier Walt said, owner of the hotel. "It is certainly a shame. But we can't tell people who reserved rooms with us months ago and have already paid for their stay: 'Sorry, but the royal family are coming, so we're going to have to cancel your stay.' It wouldn't be fair."
