'The Passion' Cast, Air Date News: Tyler Perry To Narrate Live Musical Event - Who Else Is In? When Will It Air?

Fox is mounting a live musical that depicts the suffering of Jesus Christ. The special event, dubbed as "The Passion," has cast a host of familiar singers to play historical characers and it was recently announced that Tyler Perry will serve as the show's narrator.

CNN reports that Fox has picked Perry to host the live musical event. The show, which is set to air on Palm Sunday on March 20, is a modern-day take on the story of "Jesus of Nazareth." It will highlight what happened during the Last Supper and the betrayal of Jesus' followers. It will also show the conviction, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

"The Passion" will run for two hours and will be set in New Orleans, per the press release. Playing the part of Jesus Christ is Cuban-American actor Jencarlos Canela, while popular singers like Chris Daughtry, Seal and Trisha Yearwood are also part of the production as Judas, Pontius Pilate and the Virgin Mary respectively.

Following Perry's assignment as narrator, the star addressed fans on his Facebook to support the show. "The Passion is about love, inclusion and compassion for all mankind. It's for believers and also nonbelievers," he wrote. "This story doesn't just belong to one group, it belongs to humanity. Love, forgiveness and compassion, those are things that are universal to us all."

On Monday, production showcased via Twitter that they are already preparing the set. A large cross was laid out on a field in New Orleans and they are fielding interested people to join the procession scene. Perry stated that the ticket to the live show is free.
