Dogs are called man's best friends for a reason. They are smart, loving and friendly creatures that will stand by you through your good days and bad days.
A dog is more than just a pet that can bark, wag its tail and perform some nifty tricks for a treat. Dogs can also sense some things about you. Buzzle shared some of the most surprising things your pet dog knows about you.
1. Your dog knows when you are grieving.
One study showed that dogs like to approach people who appear sad and depressed. Nobody knows for sure why, but animal experts do not think that this behavior is an expression of empathy. So if you're feeling sad and lonely, your pet dog will be there to be your ever loyal companion.
2. Your dog knows about your favoritism.
"Dogs can easily tell when you're playing favorites, and if you reward or play more with other pets, your dog might notice and feel insecure," Buzzle shares. "A report published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences says that dogs become depressed if you reward or play with other pets more than them."
3. Your dog knows if you are afraid.
Fight or flight? Do you stand your ground when facing something scary or do you run away as fast as possible? A study showed that dogs -- except natural guard dogs -- imitate their owners' response to scary situations.
4. Your dog knows when you are angry.
Dogs can assess their owners' level of anger. "If you come home and find your dog knee-deep in the garbage can, placing your hands on your hips and issuing a disapproving stare is often enough to convey your anger," Dog Notebook explained.
5. Your dog knows when no one is looking.
A pet dog will usually behave when its owner is around. But when left alone, a pet dog can do all sorts of mischievous acts. So do not be surprised if you find your food gone when you come back to the room.
