Having A Healthy Lifestyle During Midlife Would Have A Healthy Old Age

The quality of life that you have during the middle-age years can affect your life in retirement. If you live a healthy lifestyle in midlife, chances are you will be healthy at age 70 and older, according to experts.

WebMD reports the statement of the 'One You' campaign that about 40% of the total deaths in England are caused by symptoms of smoking, drinking too much liquor, inactivity and poor diet. "Many diseases that impact people's health and shorten their active lives can be prevented," said Professor Sir Muir Gray, the clinical adviser to the campaign that intends to eat well, avoid smoking, drink less and move more.

"Currently, 42 percent of adults in mid-life are living with at least one long-term health condition which increases the risk of early death and disability," he added. There are 15 million Britons who are living with long-term health conditions.

Telegraph reports that Britons are advised to take a mid-life MOT that would make a change in their lifestyle that could also double their chance of having a healthy retirement. They encouraging the people to take an online health quiz which is entitled, 'How Are You?' There would be recommendations to live a healthy lifestyle once the results were shown.

There is about 56 percent of ages 40 to 60 who took the quiz and they said that they would change their lifestyle to attain a healthy living in golden years. "It is important people of all ages feel able to prioritize their health so they can lead long and healthy lives," Professor Dame Sally Davies, England's chief medical officer said.

"We all have the power to shape our future health by making simple and small changes now. One You campaign acknowledges that this can be difficult and is there to help make these changes easier," he concluded.
