A 56-year old father suffering from metastatic urethral cancer walked his 24-year old daughter down in aisle in an attempt to keep their promise to each other, according to the NY Daily News.
Scotty Naggy, a terminally ill patient arrived at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church on Saturday on board an ambulance to attend the wedding of his daughter and even walk him down the aisle, the Plain Dealer reported. "It was a promise I made in March, to walk her down the aisle," Nagy told the Cleveland newspaper. "She's my princess. This is my definition of walking down the aisle." As the father-daughter tandem walked down the aisle, all of their guests clapped, cheered and cried together.
Nagy was escorted by a team of medical professional who volunteered and helped him walk his daughter down the aisle. Sarah, his daughter was received by Angelo Salvatore and the Reverend Chuck Knerem in front of the altar.
Last year, Nagy was diagnosed with urethral cancer and has since then been undergoing chemotherapy. He has been confined at the University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center since August. His attending physicians were uncertain whether or not he would be able to make the wedding due to this condition, according to FOX News. His daughter Sarah and now husband Angelo initially planned to get wed next year but when they found out that her father's condition is getting worse, immediately changed their plans and opted to marry as soon as possible.
Sarah admitted that it was a bit of struggle moving the wedding that quickly. "But it is what I wanted since I was a little girl, for my father to escort me down the aisle. My future husband said, 'You will get your wish. The first night at the hospital, Scott said, 'Just remember, I have to be at my daughter's wedding in October,'" his wife Jean Nagy said.
