Teen pregnancy has always been a huge concern back in the 90s, but the good news is that its rate has actually dropped since 2010. The year was 1991 when this issue was at peak in America. But just because the number of teen pregnancy has went down about six years ago, it doesn’t mean that it is no longer a problem in this country. In fact, the United States still is the number one country that is battling with this issue.
In an article published by The Atlantic, another issue on teen pregnancy in the United States is the fact that nobody really knows the reason why its rate declined back in 2010. This means that the country would still have to figure out how it got to that point and what other measures should be done in order to hopefully put a stop on its increase.
There are definitely ways that this kind of pregnancy could be prevented. Although these are not exactly guaranteed to stop this issue from rising, these tips are still worth the shot.
1. Awareness: Despite this era being the age of information due to the Internet, there are still a lot of teenagers who are not aware of the consequences of being sexually active at their age. Teaching them what exactly could happen to them should they get pregnant should start at home. According to Dr. Phil, parents should be the one to enlighten their kids when it comes to this topic.
2. Give Them Responsibilities: Giving your child some responsibility like telling them to get a summer job or any job that would pay for their expenses is a good idea since it will give them a little dose of reality when it comes to pregnancy and raising a child.
3. Make Them Feel Loved: This could come as a cliché for some, but this is actually the number one reason why teenagers tend to find love and affection from the opposite sex – it is all because they don’t feel like they are loved. Show them how important they are to you as their parents by allotting time to bond with them.
These three simple things could make a difference if applied by every household in America to their teenagers. It is never to late to act now as parents.
