Parenting has been quite a journey for Shakira. Being a mom to Milan, she would always find ways on how to nail parenting her baby boy.
Her drive to be better at parenting, especially when her second son, Sasha was born - fired up her curiosity to make a new app that will teach her young children to speak in many languages, with a help of Fisher-Price.
"I wanted it to be something that wasn't overwhelming, but that was really thorough and offered a rich variety of content," Shakira said in her interview with Pop Sugar. "With this app, you can simply use the daily age-appropriate tip or activity sent to you, or you can access the entire library of tips at any time if you're looking for something different or want to focus on a specific developmental category that day."
She pointed out the importance of having her toddlers learn languages that she and her husband, Gerard Pique speaks. "It helps if they are able to associate a person with a language at this early stage, to minimize language confusion. Their father, for example, always speaks to them in Catalan. I try to speak to them in mostly English, but if I switch, I try to not mix two languages in one sentence. Their first words were both 'mama.'"
The new app is named "Grow" and is filled with age-appropriate activities and developmental tips that can also monitor your child's many firsts. It also has a feature of serving as a virtual memory maker for parents to share their social networking sites. The way her mother documented hers, "My mother documented all my progress and I do the same with my children since they were born," Shakira told the Associated Press.
"There are many mothers in Latin American countries that have less support than others that I want to help, even a small contribution," the singer said. The app will also be available in Spanish since the singer wanted to have a wider audience and reach to help Latina parents.
