Starbucks Recalls Two Products For Fear of Possible Contamination

Coffeehouse chain Starbucks has recalled two food items from its stores for fear of possible contamination of the ingredients. The sausage and egg and cheddar sandwiches were pulled out after a listeria contamination was detected.

Fox59 reported that Starbucks' manufacturer of these sandwiches, Progressive Gourmet Inc., has tested that listeria was present on the surface of its production facility. The products which were taken out from stores were those with the expiration date Aug. 7, 2016.

The sandwiches were said to have been sold in around 250 stores in Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma last Thursday and Friday. But Starbucks claimed that it immediately removed these items from shelves when they were informed of the possible contamination.

It was noted in a Fox News report that customers who bought the products can return them to the stores where these were purchased and they will be given a full refund. They were also encouraged to call the company at 1-800-224-7630 for any queries.

On the other hand, Food Safety News claimed that there have been no reports of diseases caused by the reported contamination. However, it claimed that it takes around 70 days for the symptoms of listeria to manifest.

It also explained that this organism can cause serious infections among the elderly any young kids. Some of the indicators of a listeriosis are headache, fever, diarrhea, stiffness and stomachache. The listeria bacteria can also be very dangerous for pregnant women since it can cause miscarriage and stillbirths.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as per Fox News, said that it can also weaken the immune system of humans. FoodSafety.gov said that those affected by the bacteria should immediately visit their doctors.

Medical specialists usually give patients antibiotics to prevent any further infection. The same report noted that the symptoms of this illness can last for a few days to more than a week.
