'Mean Girls' Musical Cast and Release Date: Tina Fey Confirms 'Mean Girls' Musical

Tina Fey confirms the musical adaptation of the 2004 comedy hit "Mean Girls." Tina Fey wanted to make a musical version of the film for a long time.

In an interview with Andy Cohen during Tuesday's episode of "Watch What Happens Live," she revealed more of her plans for the musical, The Hollywood Reporter reports. During the interview, Tina Fey confirms that she is already in the works with her husband Jeff Richmond to make a stage adaptation of the 2004 comedy hit "Mean Girls." She also admitted that production may feature less pop-skewing tunes and more of Broadway classical style. This is very different from "Bring It On" the musical.

Today also notes that the "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" actress jokingly said that the show may be ready by 2027. Tina Fey reportedly wrote and co-starred in the 2004 "Mean Girls" movie alongside Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams and Amy Poehler. The Paramount film earned $129 million worldwide. For the musical, though, she will not be reprising her role as Ms. Norbury. She added that she had no plans asking the original cast from the movie to stage the musical.

The Hollywood Reporter said that Fey is not yet done with the plot. However, she is nearly done with the whole thing. They are reportedly having difficulty determining the first act's ending and the climactic song that would be used towards the end of the second half. When asked if the musical will closely follow the movie's plot, Fey answered that it's actually pretty similar.

The original movie, which the actress wrote, follows the story of Lohan as a high school girl who joins a group, known as the Plastics. The Plastics is composed of her popular classmates. She later learns that there are downsides to being popular.
