One fourth of students who enroll in university acquire STD during their first year and half are oftentimes too drunk to remember who gave it to them, according to a new research.
The study suggests that a lot of students have become more at risk of health-related conditions due to their irresponsible sexual habits. Approximately 23 percent of students admitted to having caught a sexually transmitted infection during their first year in college, according to the Daily Mail.
Researchers involved in the study found that students enrolled in theater studies are most promiscuous with an average of approximately 28 sexual partners while they are enrolled in the university. Dance students were found to be the next most promiscuous with an average of 22 sexual partners while in the university.
A survey that tested 2,177 young adults who had recently graduated showed that 89 percent do not use condoms for the majority of their sexual interactions. The poll on the other hand involved participants who remained single while at the university also revealed that 73 percent of them were under the influence of alcohol when they engaged in the majority of their sexual intercourse.
Of all the respondents, 32 percent said they found out about their STI after being contacted by someone they slept with who had been previously diagnosed. 54 percent admitted to not knowing who gave their STI to them and 27 percent admitted to only being diagnosed after they were given a free testing kit.
The Public Health England reported that "the continuing high STI rates in England suggest too many people are still putting themselves at risk through unsafe sex, especially young adults and men who have sex with men." The organization urges people under the age of 25 to use condoms when engaging in sexual encounters with 'casual partners'.
