Brad Pitt Works with Disney in Developing 'Dr. Q'

Disney and Brad Pitt are reportedly developing a film about "Dr. Q". It follows the story of an illegal immigrant who became the head of a department at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

As reported in Variety, Hollywood's Mr. Smith first heard of Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa over the radio way back in 2007. Along with his colleagues at Plan B, Jeremy Kleiner and Dede Gardner, they began developing the story of Hinojosa. The trio had won Best Picture in the Oscars two years ago for "12 Years a Slave." This year, their work for "The Big Short" has been nominated as well.

They tapped Matt Lopez to pen the screenplay. His works include "The Whipping Man," an acclaimed civil war drama play which won the 2011 John Gassner New Play Award given by New York Outer Critics Circle.

Meanwhile, Tendo Nagenda and Allison Erlikhman, are overseeing the project. Variety reports that prior to Tendo Nagenda joining Disney, he has also collaborated with Plan B Entertainment.

The story of Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa is about an illegal immigrant making his way to the United States to make his dreams a reality. According to Movie News Guide, Alfredo was only 19 years old when he went to the United States from Mexico in the 1980s. He became an illegal immigrant and worked at a farm in California. He then went to study at San Joaquin Delta College and went to the University of California at Berkeley for college. After which, he went to Harvard Medical School, eventually becoming a U.S. citizen.

With all his hard work, he now sits as the director of Brain Tumor Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He also serves a professor of Neurology and Oncology at Johns Hopkins University.

Brad Pitt, along with partners Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, will produce the film. Given their track record in "12 Years a Slave" and "The Big Short," "Dr. Q" is expected to deliver the same success. No further details about the project have been released as of press time.
