Mom Pens Heartbreaking Letter To J.K. Rowling During Daughter’s Cancer Battle

A mother of a young cancer sufferer penned a heart-wrenching letter to thank Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling for providing comfort during her daughter's painful cancer battle. The young girl passed away last week.

According to the Evening Standard, the heartbreaking letter was written by Chrissy Hart last month when her daughter was still around. It was read by actress Ellie Bamber during the recent star-studded feat of Letters Live, a series of performances at Freemasons' Hall in London in which significant letters are performed aloud. Actors Jude Law and Sir Ian McKellen also took part of the performance.

In the letter, Hart thanked Rowling for creating the world of Harry Potter. She described how the series of books had helped her "beautiful daughter" to escape from the punishing reality of cancer.

"You taught her that for every chemo she has to go through, there will be the opportunity to fly across a lake on a hippogriff," Hart said in the letter as reported by BBC News. "For every time her heart seizes with fear of pain, there will be me chasing it away with a patronus charm."

"Your words built a castle for her to move into when the prognosis got worse," she added. "Mrs Rowling, cancer threatened to take everything from my daughter, and your books turned out to be the fortress we so desperately needed to hide in."

"But the most important lesson you have taught us both: cancer may take her away from me in just a few short weeks," Hart continued. "I might not be able to spare her the pain. But for every child that is taken too early, people will come together, huddling close in a big group, wands held high to light the dark sky with the love they felt."

"You built Hogwarts as a home for her to return to. And for me," Hart concluded.

Bellfast Telegraph said that Letters Live, which was launched year, is based on the collection of letters published in Shaun Usher's international best-seller Letters Of Note. The show has featured dozens of famous performers.
