A new documentary film exposes the problem of raising children in an age of technology and screens. The issue is said to be one of the biggest parenting problems that moms and dads have to deal with nowadays.
The New York Post said that among the highlights of the film entitled "Screenagers" is a kid addicted to video games and a girl who posted a photo of her wearing only a bra. Aside from these realities, the documentary also offers parents what they can do to set limitations on the screen use of their kids.
Set to be shown this week at the Core Club in New York, the movie also aims to send a message on how to protect the mental health of children. On its official website, it was discussed that filmmaker Delaney Ruston was inspired to make the movie after seeing that her own kids would spend more than six hours a day just looking at screens.
Ruston wanted to know how this habit affects them at home and at school. This led her to look into the "the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction," the website added.
One of the testimonials from parents revealed that there is a growing concern on the issue and that the movie was able to deal with it in a remarkable way. "The film is first rate- you've made a REMARKABLE piece: thoughtful, provocative and beautifully filmed and edited," said mother Beth G. in the movie's website.
Another testimonial, this time from a certified screenager, said that she cannot focus in class because of her phone. "I'm so distracted by my phone that I can't listen to the teacher," she added.
With these issues at hand, the creators of the movie hope to tackle every issue involving the use of screens among young individuals. They also want to offer professional help and advice tom experts, as well as other youngsters.
