Mercedes is launching its AMG E43 midsize sedan two months after the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, where its brand new E-Class made its official debut. The 2017 Mercedes AMG E43 is set to make its global debut at the 2016 New York Auto Show.
According to Top Speed, the performance sedan is the third new Mercedes-Benz to sport the "43" badge. The upcoming model is joining the smaller AMG SLC 43 and the AMG C43 Coupe.
Instead of the traditional V-8, the AMG E43 features a turbocharged V-6 engine. The E-Class car model aims to bridge the gap between the AMG E63 and the range-topping model of the standard lineup.
The E43 provides the perfect option besides the already popular S6. It enables Mercedes access to a new niche. The performance midsize sedan gives AMG enthusiasts a more affordable choice compared to the high-priced E63. Besides the price, the AMG E43 also has the advantage of being a more fuel-efficient sedan.
Mercedes designed the AMG E43 to slot below the AMG E63 and above the standard E-Class. Compared to the V-8 version, the E43 is rather discrete. The E43 doesn't feature specific badges on its front fenders, unlike other AMG models. Among features that set it apart from the regular sedan are the diamond grille, the horizontal fins in the outer intakes and the three large openings in the bumper.
The side view features 19-inch, five-spoke wheels. Around the back, the AMG E43 has a silver chrome diffuser, the usual chrome-plated quad-flow exhaust tailpipes and a body-colored spoiler lip on the trunk lid. Overall, the 2017 Mercedes AMG E43 is the perfect choice for drivers who want a high-performance midsize sedan without a flashy exterior.
Among interior additions include sportier seats with improved lateral support, red seat belts, black roof lining and bespoke pedals. The flat-bottom steering wheel comes in black Nappa leather with red stitching. A seven-inch screen and two analog dials come as standard. A 12.3-inch screen with a more dynamic instrument cluster display is optional.
According to Pulse Headlines, the E43 is powered by a 3.0-liter V-6 twin-turbo engine that provides 384 pound-feet of torque and 396 horsepower. Top speed is electronically limited at 155 mph and charging from 0 to 60 mph can be achieved in just 4.5 seconds.
The Mercedes E43 will debut at the 2016 New York Auto Show. It is expected to arrive in early 2017 in U.S. showrooms. Pricing is not yet available.
