Marking its 20th anniversary this year, Danny Boyle hopes that the film could make its premiere by the end of the year. “Trainspotting” follows the story of a group of heroin addicts residing in the poor areas of Edinburgh during the late '80s. This is based on a book with the same title penned by Irvine Welsh. The cult classic film reportedly launched the careers of renowned actors Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle and Johnny Lee Miller.
Still following the book, "Trainspotting 2" is loosely based on Welsh’s follow-up novel titled “Porno.” However, Danny Boyle opted out to use the book’s title. The sequel will simply be titled “Trainspotting 2."
Meanwhile, Enstarz reveals that "Trainspotting 2" will largely depict Edinburgh’s current state. It will highlight the reunion of the main characters (Renton, Begbie, Sick Boy and Spud) and their ingenious methods of getting and doing their vice. Screen Rant adds that there are rumors of Kelly MacDonald joining the project. She played Diane in “Trainspotting."
With two months ahead of its May schedule, Danny Boyle may actually reach the 2016 release date. Official release date has not been announced for “Trainspotting 2." For now, take a look back at the main cast 20 years ago.
