Halloween 'Nasty' Letter to Fat Kids: Woman Gives out Lose Weight Letters Instead of Candy

It's that time of year again when children across the country get dressed up in their Halloween attire and hit the streets in search of trick or treats. One woman in Fargo, North Dakota won't be handing out candy to kids she deems are too overweight or obese for them, according to a report.

A woman identified only as "Cheryl" told valleynewslive.com in Fargo that she believes events like Halloween only make overweight kids fatter. Her idea is to offer them a letter with advice to practice healthy eating habits instead of doling out candy to child that comes knocking on her door.

"You (sic) child is, in my opinion, moderately obese and should not be consuming sugar treats to the extent of some children this Halloween season," the letter reads. "My hope is that you will step up as an adult and ration candy this Halloween and not allow your child to continue these unhealthy eating habits."

Cheryl said she would be doing the family a favor by helping them instill healthier eating habits.

"I think it's just really irresponsible of parents to send them out looking for free candy just 'cause all the other kids are doing it," she said during the interview.

"I just want to send a message to the parents of kids that are really overweight," a woman only known as Cheryl said."I'm contributing to their health problems, and really, their kids are everybody's kids."

Meanwhile, North Dakota State Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology Dr. Katie Gordon studies eating disorders and says although Cheryl's intentions might be good, they can be harmful to some children.

"It's just that kind of thing that for some kids, if they're vulnerable, might trigger major problems," she says.
