Kanye West recently stated that he will never make another CD again. Instead, he plans to launch three albums every year.
“No more fashion calendar… I’m going Mad Max… 6 collections a year…3 albums a year,” Kanye West tweeted on Mar. 12, 2016.
“I was thinking about not making CDs ever again… Only streaming,” Kanye West added via a tweet.
The eccentric hip-hop rapper also referred to the cover art of his 2013 album, titled “Yeezus,” saying that its packaging served as an open casket to CDs. He proceeded to tell CDs to rest in peace. Kanye West confirmed that he will no longer be making any CDs and focus on releasing six collections a year instead. This means that Kanye West’s future creations will no longer have physical versions, and will become available via music streaming services only.
Previously, a source told Billboard that Def Jam and Universal Music Group were closely collaborating with Kanye West on various potential release strategies for album, “The Life of Pablo.” According to the producers, the album’s physical version was already due. Pitchfork noted that apparently, the album has been altered slightly, although it has not been released yet. There may be a number of tweaks made to the song “Famous,” which features Rihanna.
The lyric “she be Puerto Rican day parade wavin,” has reportedly been converted to “she in school to be a real estate agent.” More changes have allegedly been introduced. Kanye West seems to be working on the album’s final mix at present.
If Kanye West continues with his annual three-album plan, fans could expect at least two more albums launching in 2016.
The Boombox noted that Kanye West might be spending more time in the studio. The move might appeal to avid fans who prefer streaming services, although it may also alienate those who like to own physical copies of albums. Hopefully, West can maintain the quality over his future albums and not merely focus on quantity.
The official album launch date of “The Life of Pablo” has yet to be announced. More updates and details on Kanye West are expected soon.
