McDonald's Bagged Coffee Hits Shelves as Company Tests Product

McDonald's coffee fans won't need to pop on over to their local fast food joint anymore, but instead, they will be able to brew up a cup of their favorite joe at home.

McDonald's bagged coffee will soon be hitting supermarkets as the world's biggest hamburger chain says it will test selling a variety of packaged ground and whole-bean coffee. McDonald's will partner with Kraft to distribute the bagged coffee, though neither company provided details about which markets would see the rollout first. Kraft previously distributed Starbucks coffee, though that partnership has ended.

McDonald's bagged coffee follows coffee retailers Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks, which also sell bagged coffee in supermarkets. The packaged coffee industry is worth about $5.6 billion, and 56 percent of Americans reported that they bought coffee in the supermarket in 2011, according to The Daily Meal.

McDonald's, based in Oak Brook, Ill., said they have already started selling McCafe packaged coffee in Canada late last year. Those bags weighed about 12 ounces and cost about $7. The company did not say how widespread the test will be or for how long it will go on for. The test will also include single-cup servings.
