The popular Valve games, namely "Portal" and "Half Life" are a huge hit among players. In fact, at the time, there are non-stop talks for the next iterations of the said games.
Gamers have been drooling for "Portal 3" and "Half Life 3" but it looks like that the next iteration of these games will be seen on the big screens and not in consoles.
The award-winning director of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" answered the questions about the upcoming films inspired from Valve's "Half Life" and "Portal" video games in a recent interview with IGN.
"Not yet, but they're in development," Abrams said regarding the "Half Life" and "Portal" movies. "And we've got writers, and we're working on both those stories. But nothing that would be an exciting update."
According to Independent, there are still no signs of the anticipated title "Portal 3" so as with "Half Life 3" However, the report suggests that adapting the former in the lens will not be that difficult given its "dystopian setting and teleporting blaster guns."
The talks about the potential movie adaptations of Valve's game spring from Gabe Newell and Abrams announcement at the DICE summit two years ago. The two creative geniuses admitted that they want to collaborate on games and movies in the future. There is no doubt that each of them knows something that the other one don't.
In a separate report from IGN, Newell and Abrams revealed their different perspective about gaming and movies.
"When I'm a gamer, I'm in the game," Newell said. "I understand the narrative device, but as a gamer I'm saying 'put the camera down and f**king run' and I can't do that." He stressed that in games the player controls the actions.
Meanwhile, Abrams countered pointing out that players often drag the scene in the wrong direction. "Players are often asked to relate to empty vessels, characters that don't communicate behavior in a way that you would. It's as frustrating [as film] in a lot of ways, but at least in films we can have compelling scenes and dialog," Abrams said.
The director stressed that there should be a story. Perhaps, Abrams will add a plot for "Half Life" and "Portal" in the films.
