"The Americans" returns for its fourth season Wednesday, March 16, on FX and its showrunners hint that the new season will be its most emotional yet. Some plots that were unraveled in the earlier seasons are going to be further explored. Truth bombs are going to drop.
Tension in the Jennings household started escalating in Season 3, with Paige challenging her parents and Philip and Elizabeth debating on whether they should recruit their daughter to the KGB. But what can viewers expect next from this spy family? What will the first episode of Season 4 deliver?
"Many bombs that were set ticking in the first season are either going to have to diffuse or go off," said Joel Fields, the shows co-creator, via Examiner. "This is a season in which things are coming to a head," he added. To further complicate their roles as parents and spies, the Jennings will also have to deal with a new character played by Dylan Baker as the new recruit. The contrast between his character and Paige will be highlighted.
The Gazette reveals biological weapons will be the newest threat in "The Americans" Season 4 and it will be the spy couple's mission to find out what the United States is planning with it. Meanwhile, the tension with Paige will continue. Their daughter will still meet up with Pastor Tim without her parents' knowledge. It should be recalled that Paige told the pastor in Season 3 that her parents are KGB spies.
TV Guide reports that Philip's other wife, Martha, will be back this time to pick up the pieces of what she learned about him. Back at the prison in Russia, Nina will get closer to Anton, who has been helping her on intel. On the other hand, Stan will still try to get Nina out of prison and he's also going to pursue a few leads at the FBI with Martha figuring in it.
"The Americans" stars Matthew Rhys (Philip), Keri Russell (Elizabeth), Holly Taylor (Paige), Alison Wright (Martha), Noah Emmerich (Stan), Annet Mahendru (Nina) and Michael Aronov (Anton).
