Samsung Galaxy S7 Mini In the Works; Smaller Version to Counter Apple's iPhone 5se

It's not a secret that Apple is making a more affordable version of their iPhone with iPhone 5SE. Did this threaten the Korean tech giant?

There are rumors that Samsung will be developing Samsung Galaxy S7 Mini to compete with Apple's upcoming smartphone iPhone 5SE. Per Stuff, the cheaper version of iPhone will sport a 4-inch display with an 1136 x 640 screen resolution. According to the report, the new smartphone is an upgraded version of iPhone 5s, but it's not expected to arrive with a touch-sensitive 3D Touch Display.

The Korean-based tech giant will not allow the Cupertino-based tech giant to take over the market without giving a good competition. Thus, Samsung is gearing for a mini version of their popular Samsung Galaxy S7.

A report from Taiwan suggested that Samsung would be manufacturing Galaxy S7 Mini in response to Apple's iPhone 5SE.

According to SamMobile, it is not surprising for Samsung to produce mini versions of their phones. The company has released mini variants of their Galaxy S smartphones in the past. In fact, there were reports about Galaxy S6 mini, only that up to now it never appeared on the market.

NDTV reported that Samsung Galaxy S7 Mini will sport a 4.6-inch display with 720x1280 pixels resolution. The phone will be about 9.9mm thick. It will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor or Samsung's own Exynos 8890 SoC.

The handset may also arrive with a 3GB of RAM and 12-megapixel rear camera. Per the report, the Galaxy S7 Mini comes with a separate accessory called "Periscope Lens" with 3x optical zoom.

Meanwhile, International Business Times noted that when Samsung made S5 Mini they also limit its under-the-hood configurations but with Samsung Galaxy S7 Mini that will not be the case. The report stressed that Galaxy S7 Mini will be Samsung's first compact device with high-end configurations.
