Razer's Updated Blade laptop is now available for preorder. A more powerful, sleeker version for a lower price.
The new Razer Blade, a 14-inch portable gaming behemoth, has a lighter design, upgraded components and offers more storage at a lower price, reports The Verge. It has two storage configurations, a 512GB model that is priced at $2,199 ($500 cheaper than last year's model) and a 256GB model at $1,999. Both models use PCIe M.2 SSDs.
Both models are powered by an updated Intel Core i7-6700HQ quad-core processor, which is backed by 16 gigs of DD4 memory. Although the Blade is compatible with desktop graphics cards thanks to Razer's Core enclosure, it has an Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M graphics card with dedicated 6GB RAM.
It has a 14-inch, 3200 x 1800 pixel (QHD) IGZO touchscreen display, and also has the Blade Stealth's Chroma keyboard that can display millions of color options and patterns thanks to individually backlit RBG keys.
Don't be fooled into thinking that the Razer will look clunky because of the power it promises. For years, Razer has been producing sleek and stylish gaming laptops that are unlike the gaming laptops that other companies come up with. In terms of overall design, the updated Blade is still similar to last year's version, although it weighs lighter at 4.25 pounds. And at 0.7 inches thick, it's pretty slim.
Regarding connectivity, it has a USB-C connector, three USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI 1.4b video and audio port, and a 3.5mm headphone/microphone combo port.
PC Magazine notes that the battery life for the new Blade will probably last up to about 4 hours and 52 minutes, which is the length of time last year's Blade was able to reach. This means that if you are a non-gamer who is looking for long battery life, this one's not for you. However, if you are a gamer, given the gaming power the Blade possesses, it's the best choice.
