'The Amazing Spider-Man' News: Sally Field Talks About Her Past Role as Aunt May

In a tell-all interview with Howard Stern of the Academy Award winning actress, Sally Field, she reveals that she is compelled to accept the role of Aunt May in the two "The Amazing Spider-Man" movies. Sally Field admits that she didn't enjoy playing the role and she only accepted it because of the late producer Laura Ziskin's condition.

Sally Field shared that she didn't especially like "The Amazing Spider-Man" as she was not into that kind of movies. But because Laura Ziskin is battling cancer that time and "The Amazing Spider-Man" might be her last film, Sally Field agreed to be Aunt May.

According to Screen Rant, Sally Field told Howard Stern that Laura Ziskin is one her closest friends and it was hard to reject her. In fact, Laura Ziskin is Sally Field's first producing partner.

Moreover, Sally Field might use harsh words explaining her disapproval for her role as Aunt May. But being an award winning actress who only has a small scale role in supporting the character of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, Sally Field deserves something better, Movie Pilot adds.

Sally Field was added to "The Amazing Spider-Man" as a "comedic relief" or to "add tension" in the movie. Also, Sally Field's character as Aunt May didn't have much exposure in "The Amazing Spider-Man" and her story was not explored too much.

When Howard Stern asked Sally Field how much thought she exerted to play the role of Aunt May, she answered him with, "Not a great deal." "Because it's really hard to find a three-dimensional character in it, and you work it as much as you can, but you can't put ten pounds of s*** in a five-pound bag," Sally Field about her character as Aunt May in "The Amazing Spider-Man."
