A diet is something people who are trying to lose weight go on for a set period of time and once they've achieved their goal or the diet failed, they revert back to a more balanced eating plan. However, one British woman went on a diet in her late 20s to shed some excess weight, and never went off the diet for another 50 years before reaching her goal weight.
Brenda Boxall was unhappy with her 280 pound weight when she was in her 20s and she decided to do something about it, according to the Daily Mail. Boxall said her weight struggles began in the late 1950s after the breakdown of her first marriage.
She was left heartbroken and devastated over the failed marriage and turned to bread, pastries and cakes for console, consuming more than 7,000 calories a day.
"I would eat anything that would come my way - lots of carbohydrates including a lot of bread and crisps. When I was at my biggest I wore clothes which were like tents. There was no fashion in those days for people as large as I was," she said.
Boxall then decided to get her life back in order and lose the weight so she could feel better about herself.
"I've wanted to get to this weight since my 20s. The diet went well over the first few years but for the past 40 I've been struggling to lose the last three stone."
'Now I've finally got there it feels lovely. I feel like a different person. I have more confidence and feel a lot healthier.'
After more than 50 years of constant dieting and exercising, Boxall said she has finally lost the excess fat and is now her target weight of125 pounds.
Over 50 years she has also shrunk from a dress size 30 to just a size 10.
